how to stay slim in times of economic slowdown

Tough economic times can lead to stress which in turn leads to poor diet and exercise choices.

Don’t go stretching that waistband. Simply make a few rules to stick by so you come out of the credit crunch as fit as a fiddle.
1) Don't opt for super cheap meals. The lure of a filling fast food meal for only a few dollars can be temping but what you save on cost now will end in pricey medical bills in the future. Skip fatty foods and opt for economical but nutritious options such as a wholemeal pasta with tomato ragu or frittata with eggs and veggies. Don’t be lazy, look around your supermarket for great food at low prices.
2) Stay in but don't slob out. During tough economic times cutting down on nights out is an easy way to save money but don’t sit idly in front of the television snacking to pass time. Instead, be social. Invite friends round for a night of board games or cards. Both options stimulate your mind which can improve the health of your brain in years to come.
3) Don’t cancel gym membership. It can be tempting to cut luxury items from our budget but if you use the it, it’s worth keeping. Instead of cancelling, make more of the facilities. Try out new classes and ask for guest passes so you can bring a friend along.
4) Pick up a workout DVDs. If you don’t have a gym membership, invest in a great exercise DVD or game. They make a great addition to jogging when the weather takes a turn for the worse, save money and if followed correctly, will give an equally good workout as a gym session. Check out our favourites workouts.
5) Drink water. Soft drinks are cheap and may seem like a treat, but they are empty calories and have no nutritional value. Save your money for a fun excursion and keep hydrated with water.
